5/21 Rotary Roundup

Our meeting with students at Salinas High School gives me hope for our future. You can be proud to know that we support a whole crew of leaders through our Rotary work and through the work of the Interact club.

Hope you were there (even Fernando Elizondo, with his brand new knee was there) to hear the good news about each of the students we recognized on Tuesday, and here are the honorees: Andy Matsui Scholarship, Khang Ninh; Teacher of the Year, Nick Garcia (social studies); Salutatorian, Annie Ryan; Valedictorians, Abril Felix, Kristi Ishii, and Paige Zimmerman (all with 4.5 grade point averages); Students of the Month, Jenika Estassi, Matt Verania, Manuel Herrera, Taylor Arias, Sophia Dakas, John Favazza, and Morgan Fremgen; Service Above Self Student of the Year, Estivaly Moreno; and Interact Student of the Year, Interact President Grant Kennedy.

Thanks to Vanessa Vallerta, Kelly Sutherland and Mark Scarr for your commitment and dedication to finding and recognizing these students and teachers.

Relay for Life is less than a month away. Hope to see you on Saturday, June 9th at the Salinas Sports Complex around 10:30 a.m. for our team lap. Contact Phoebe Helm, Team Captain, at p.helm@sbcglobal.net if you haven’t gotten involved yet.

Finally, as the Rotary year winds down, please mark Tuesday, June 26 on your calendar and please note that Joe Grainger’s first meeting is on Tuesday, July 10 (we’re dark on July 3).
