Rotary is a service organization where “Service Above Self” is our motto. We support local and international efforts to make a difference at home and across the world.
COMMUNITY SERVICE provides opportunities for Rotarians and their families to engage in our community in a meaningful way. Service opportunities vary year to year, all however are designed to provide options for Rotarians to give back in a way they may not otherwise have the chance to.
Immunization Day: In November, Rotarians organize the immunization of homeless and disadvantaged people at Dorothy’s Place, in cooperation with the Hartnell College Nursing School.
Dress for Success: In November, Rotarians support Sun Street Centers by donating gently used professional attire to be provided to participants of Sun Street programming as they re-engage in their community.
Salvation Army Kettle Campaign: In December, The Salinas Rotary Club rings the bell to raise funds for local families in need.
INTERNATIONAL SERVICE encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. Rotarians can support International Service by sponsoring a project in another country, seeking international project partners to support projects in their own communities, or by personally volunteering at an international project site.
Salinas Rotary Club has participated in numerous international efforts over the years. Recently, we have conducted medical humanitarian outreach in Kosrai, Micronesia; partnered with a Rotary club in Zimbabwe to furnish the Matau Primary School Canteen; sent a delegation of Rotarians and Interact students to Lima, Peru to clean up an unsafe, neglected neighborhood and build a recreation field in its place; and partnered with other relief organizations to purchase and deliver an X-ray machine to Tenwek Hospital in Kenya.
