Letter from President Brett

We welcome you to the Rotary Club of Salinas.

While we are the oldest and largest service club in Monterey County, we remain young at heart and in our passion for “Service above Self”.  While building friendships since 1922, we have contributed more than $1,000,000 to the Rotary Foundation to fight hunger, reduce infant mortality, promote peace and conflict resolution, increase literacy and access to basic education, and almost wiped Polio off the face of the earth.  Locally, we contribute our time, talent and energy at two local high schools, sponsor one of the prime events in the Salinas Valley – the Salinas Valley ½ Marathon – and regularly support such diverse organizations as the National Steinbeck Center, Rancho Cielo, and the Pay it Forward Program.

This year our major project is here in the City of Salinas.  We have partnered with other local and international Rotary Clubs to undertake a major renovation project at Closter Park.  The goal is to create a welcoming environment in the most visited park in Salinas.  When completed, Plaza Rotario will incorporate the best features of the central plazas typically found in Mexican towns to create a gathering place for families.

I am honored to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Salinas for 2011-2012, and invite you to join us on Tuesdays at noon at the National Steinbeck Center to find out more about us.

Rotary begins on Tuesday….but it does not end there.

Brett Harrell
President
